Collaboration. Arnaud Jaillet. [vid. 001]
Object. Designed by Cristóbal Balenciaga. 1965. Spain.
Visual collaboration merging 3D rendering and charcoal into a single aesthetic. This project, created with artist Arnaud Jaillet, is a tribute to the work of Cristóbal Balenciaga by using patterns from his Tulip dress, reminiscent of Japanese kimonos. We aimed to recreate the sculptural shapes that framed the body rather than constraining it, in the same way the master changed the shape of women’s fashion. By mixing our styles and techniques, using textures made from charcoal and blending my renders and his paintings, we tried to provoke ‘what is most accidental in art’, as Arnaud likes to say. The ghostly silhouette part of the handmade process affects the digital outcome by bringing life in the composition. As well as a randomness, the combination of craft and digital achieves a balance between straight lines and curves to gave a naturalness in the dress close to a tulip.
